How to cancel a domain name / stop a service?

Cancelling a domain name

To cancel the registration of a domain name, it must be set to automatic or immediate expiration.

1. Go to the "Domains" tab then click on "Portfolio".
    

2. Select the domains you want to set to automatic expiration.
    

3. Click on 'Delete'.
    

4. Choose the deletion option you want when the extension allows it: "Let expire automatically" or "Delete immediately" (if it is possible to request "immediate deletion", we strongly recommend being very careful and sure of your choice if you select this option as it is final and the domain will be deleted without delay).
   Important: note that some extensions do not allow automatic expiration at expiration date and then will only show the "Delete immediately" option.
    

5. Click on 'Confirm deletion': you will then receive a confirmation request email, after which if you confirm, the deletion request will be confirmed and processed automatically according to your choice (immediate deletion or on the expiration date).
   
   
    

6. Click on the link and follow the procedure in the email to finalise, or go to the "Open Work" tab in your customer portal, and proceed to step 7.
    

7. Select the status 'Pending verification' to filter, open the action menu (3 horizontal lines) for the concerned domain, and click on 'Validation' then 'Validate'.
   
   Important: If you do not validate the deletion request, either by email or on your portal, the deletion request will not be taken into account and the domain or service will then be renewed.
   
   
   
   
   Note 1: The cancellation must be explicitly requested on your customer portal before the automatic renewal of your domain, i.e. before the Domain Renewal Start Date.
   
   

   
   Note 2: When a domain is configured to be automatically deleted upon expiration date (in "AUTODELETE" (or "AUTOEXPIRE") mode with the status "deletion pending (= deletion requested upon expiration date)", if you wish to renew it, you must carry out the renewal before the Renewal Start Date, which is often prior to its expiration date, to avoid deletion and restoration fees.
   
   
   
    

Stopping a service/option

Options associated with a domain name are automatically cancelled when you delete the domain name to which they are attached.

To cancel a service / option without cancelling the domain name, go to the relevant section:

• For domain options, such as private Whois, go to the details of the desired domain (Domains > Portfolio > Select the domain > Edit)
   

• For SSL certificates, go to the "SSL Certificates" section of the menu

If you cannot access the service/option to delete, you can simply send us an email, to your account manager or at support(at)brandshelter.com, indicating your references, the domain name, as well as the service/option you wish to delete, specifying whether you want deletion upon expiration or immediate deletion.

Table of deletion delays related to automatic expiration by TLD (last updated August 2022):

The deletion delay is expressed in days.

• A positive number indicates deletion x days after the expiration date.
• A negative number indicates deletion x days before the "Paid until" date.
• No number or 0 indicates deletion on the day of the expiration date.
