How to enable/disable Whois Privacy for your domain?

Hide the public data of the contacts associated with your domain name with the private registration / Whois Privacy option.

The Whois Privacy service hides the contact details associated with your domain names in the Whois, and notably helps reduce advertising solicitations, spam, telemarketing, and identity theft attempts.

Whois Privacy option: all public data is hidden (owner, address, email, phone, etc.).

It is possible to subscribe to this private registration option at any time, either when registering your domain name or afterwards.

To enable/disable the Private Whois option for a domain:

  1. Select your domain (Domains > Portfolio),
  2. Right-click on the domain and click "Edit" or select the names and click on "Edit selected domains" > "Edit domain details",
  3. In the "Contacts / Nic-handles" section, select "Yes" (enable) or "No" (disable) from the "Whois Data Privacy" dropdown menu,
  4. Click on "Save".

If you choose to enable/disable Whois Privacy, this will automatically add a service to be validated in your shopping cart in both cases. In the case of disabling, the privacy of your contact information will be lifted (only for legal entities; for individuals, contact information is always hidden, so the option is not necessary).

The cost of this service depends on the top-level extension of your domain (.com, .org, .fr, .ca, etc.).

Activating/deactivating the Whois Privacy option might be accompanied by a paid service for changing the registrant, which will be automatically applied per domain, essential to display the new replacement contact details. The cost of this service depends on the top-level extension of your domain (.com, .org, .fr, .ca, etc.).

The registrant can only be contacted via our encrypted email address. Postal mail sent to the physical postal address will be rejected or destroyed, and callers will be redirected to this page:

  • Email & phone number masked: your phone number will be replaced by ours, callers will be redirected to this WHOIS Proxy page, and your email address will be replaced by one of our aliases that will forward received email messages to you.
  • Alternative postal address: postal mail will be rejected or destroyed. Postal mail is not accepted and will be automatically rejected or destroyed.
  • Available for most extensions: the Private Whois service is available for most extensions and can be associated with the domain name during the registration process or afterwards.
  • Option can be disabled at any time: if you want your details to appear again in the Whois database, you can disable the Private Whois service by simply changing the field as indicated above to the value "No": "Whois Data Privacy: No".

Here is what the WHOIS display will look like, and how the privacy of registered persons can be protected:
