SSL Renewals

BrandShelter system currently send two types of notification emails, depending on your renewal settings before the SSL certificate expires:

  • For manual certificate renewals, a single notification is sent 6 weeks before expiration

  • For automatic certificate renewals, three notifications are sent:

    • ~8 weeks before expiration: “Certificate Expiration Notice”

    • ~6 weeks before expiration: “Second Certificate Expiration Reminder”

    • ~5 weeks before expiration: “Final Certificate Expiration Reminder” → automatic renewal is then triggered 4 weeks before expiration

Note: for “External” certificates (certificates added to your portfolio for visibility, even if managed by another provider), our system cannot renew them automatically. However, we will notify you approximately 4 weeks before their expiration to alert you and give you the opportunity to renew them directly via our services.

Renewal in Advance

You may renew a certificate in advance by submitting an explicit renewal request at any point during its lifecycle.

Renew the certificate directly through the customer portal before the expiration date indicated in the notifications/your account, and ensure installation before expiration to avoid any service interruption.

Note: a purchased certificate remains valid/active for its full validity period, regardless of subsequent purchases from the same or a different Certificate Authority. To technically stop its operation, an explicit revocation request is required.

Retention of Certificate-Associated Settings

When a certificate is renewed, it retains all previously associated settings, including:
- Its CSR file
- Owner/Organization and Approval contacts
- Server type
- Certain BrandShelter-specific settings, such as Division, internal cost reference, etc.

Currently, these values cannot be modified during renewal, and associated contact information is not visible in your customer portal.

If you want to ensure the renewal uses up-to-date information (for example, after recent internal organizational changes), it is recommended to disable automatic renewal for the affected certificate(s), and initiate an explicit certificate order with the updated information, ensuring the Certificate Authority does not block the certificate audit.

You can refer to the dedicated help page for certificate ordering, which provides detailed instructions on completing all mandatory fields.
